5 Women's Reproductive Diseases at Risk of Complicating Pregnancy

Various types of diseases can attack the female reproductive system. Some of these diseases even risk complicating pregnancy in the future. For this reason, it is important for women to be aware of diseases that can interfere with the plan to get a baby. Some types of female reproductive diseases that can complicate pregnancy are endometriosis, myoma, and polycystic ovary syndrome. In addition, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and pelvic inflammation are also known to trigger fertility disorders.

Diseases That Can Disrupt Women's Reproductive System

Below is an explanation of various reproductive diseases that pose a risk for pregnancy.

1. Endometriosis

Endometriosis occurs when tissue that is supposed to line the uterine wall actually grows outside the uterus, such as the ovaries, fallopian tubes, vagina, and can even reach other organs in the body. If not treated immediately, over time will cause inflammation, cysts, forming scar tissue, to infertility (infertility). Until now, there has been no specific treatment to treat endometriosis. Endometriosis treatment is generally intended to relieve symptoms experienced, slow the growth of abnormal tissue, and increase fertility. If this method of treatment is ineffective, chances are your doctor will recommend you to carry out the surgical procedure.

2. Myoma

Myoma is the growth of non-cancerous tissue in the uterus. This tissue growth generally does not affect the process of pregnancy. However, there are some cases of myoma where the location of growth can cause infertility or miscarriage. If myoma growth is known to be risky to complicate pregnancy later in life, your doctor may recommend surgery to remove it.

3. Polycystic ovary syndrome

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or polycystic ovary syndrome is a form of hormonal disorder in women that can complicate pregnancy. This syndrome can be identified from irregular menstrual cycles, the appearance of zits, and excessive hair growth. Until now, effective treatment methods to overcome polycystic ovary syndrome have still not been found. Existing treatment aims to control the symptoms that arise due to the syndrome. To increase the chances of pregnancy, PCOS sufferers need to undergo regular treatment, under the supervision of a gynecologist.

4. Pelvic inflammation

Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) occurs when the upper reproductive tract, such as the uterus, cervix, ovaries, and fallopian tubes, becomes inflamed due to bacterial infection of the vagina. If not treated immediately, pelvic inflammatory disease can cause serious complications that complicate pregnancy, in the form of scar tissue in the reproductive system. This bacterial infection can be treated with antibiotics. Patients are advised to complete the treatment period to completion, in order to reduce the risk of other more serious complications.

5. Sexually transmitted infections

Chlamydia and gonorrhea are sexually transmitted infections that are often associated with infertility, especially in women. Because, women often do not experience typical symptoms when suffering from this infection, so it is too late to get treatment. Without proper treatment, chlamydia and gonorrhea can spread from the vagina to the uterus. In more severe conditions, this infection can develop into pelvic inflammation and complicate pregnancy. Diseases of the female reproductive organs cannot be underestimated and need to be treated immediately. If you have symptoms of the disease, you should consult a doctor to get the treatment needed, especially to maintain reproductive function so you can get pregnant later in life.
